Heart Month

Chaos was diagnosed in utero with a “CHD” or a congenital heart defect, which refers to a structural difference in the heart that is present at birth. Its not one specific difference, but a term to cover many different ones. CHD’s impact bloodflow, oxygen delivery, and how the heart works in some way.

I learned way too much about heart anatomy and terminology than I every expected to, and now talk about it (semi confidently) when explaining bits and pieces of my sons story.

February is “Heart Month” so all of this information is popping up over various corners of my algorithm.

1 in 100 babies are born with a CHD, it is the most common birth defect. Sometimes its found in utero, others it could be discovered days, weeks or years later. There was no genetic pre-disposition etc, it just happened.
